The U.S. Government announced on October 6, 2017 that it will revoke certain economic sanctions with respect to Sudan and the Government of Sudan.

That action, directed by Executive Order, is effective October 12, 2017. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued new Frequently Asked Questions and a new General license authorizing certain transactions. Concurrently, the State Department issued a statement and report with respect to the sanctions revocation. Revoking certain economic sanctions was said by State to be “in recognition of the Government of Sudan’s sustained positive actions to maintain a cessation of hostilities in conflict areas in Sudan, improve humanitarian access throughout Sudan, and maintain cooperation with the United States on addressing regional conflicts and the threat of terrorism.”
