The uncertainty, coupled with cost pressures, has again fuelled the discussion to look at rail transport as a possible long-term alternative.
Fortunately, it was back in 2012, that the Chinese had initiated the ambitious process of revamping its rail infrastructure. Their aim was to improve the connectivity of their interior provinces with the major cities within China, and consequently to Western Europe. Today, these regions are well connected to the key European markets like Russia, Germany, France, and the UK.
The China-Europe rail offers multiple strategic benefits:
Cost-Effectiveness: The China-Europe rail transport is a cost effective alternative to airfreight. It is also quicker as compared to the sea routes.
Speed: While ocean shipping from the Eastern coast of China to Europe requires at least 28 days, rail transport significantly reduces that to 14-15 days (Chongqing to Duisburg), thereby cutting down on tgo-to-market time, and improving overall efchian-europe-railficiencies.
Flexibility: Rail consolidating use CFS, and solutions are provided in both FCL as well as LCL. Increased frequency of trains and multiple hubs along the route open up several delivery options.
Dependability: Real time tracking monitors multiple variables like motion, shock, atmospheric pressure, temperature, etc. This lends transparency, reliability and certainty at each stage.
Eco-Friendly: Rail freight is one of the most eco-friendly modes of transport. It is also cleaner than shipping, since most ships continue to run on fossil fuels and its derivatives.
